When I use loose snus, I prefer to use a portion tool rather than handbake my own. Normally I use my trusty IceTool (review here) which I love, but the price can be a little steep for some. Fortunately, V2 Tobacco produces a lower cost portion tool known as the SnusX Portion Maker. The portion maker is available in both mini (about 3mL) and large (approx 5mL) formats depending on your needs.
Upon receiving my portion maker, I noticed that it came packaged in a snus can which aside from being neat also doubles as a handy storage container for the tool when not in use. The tool is constructed out of black plastic, and unlike the IceTool, it cannot be separated into two pieces so you’ll need to clean it out from time to time to remove any leftover snus. Furthermore, you’ll also need to lubricate the tool from time to time, and to do so I recommend using placing a dab of olive oil or vegetable oil on a q-tip and then applying it to the tool’s insides. This will keep snus from sticking to the tool, in turn making it easier to operate. In order to clean your tool, I suggest using warm soapy water and then giving it a good rinse.
Overall, the SnusX Portion Maker from V2 is a great low-cost way to form consistent portions from loose snus each and every time. Although it isn’t as durable as the IceTool, it still works great and should be in every loose snus fan’s toolkit! I like to use my IceTool at home and the portion maker while I’m out at bars (that way I don’t have to worry about misplacing an expensive tool!) and the system has been working well thus far.
