For the past year, Swedish Match has been resurrecting old brands in the loose format. And this one is their latest, meet Svenskt Exportsnus! It’s been pretty neat, because it seems like nobody makes new loose snus anymore. This product was made from 1970-1998, when there was a demand for snus with a milder character. SM produced just 75,000 cans of this one, so if you want to try it out, get in on it before it’s gone!
For this product, Swedish Match said: “We have now re-launched three classics from the past, Mörkbrunt Snus, Rallarsnus and now Svenskt Exportsnus. The idea was to also do something for the approximately 200,000 lös snus users found in Sweden, since much of our product development was focused on portion products. It’s been a really fun project where we dusted off old recipes and tried to emulate the originals as best we can.”
The flavor description for this one says, “Dark tobacco character with elements of rum raisin, smoke and jasmine.” Each can contains 42 grams of loose snus goodness, and has a 7.5mg/g nicotine strength.
To preface this, that flavor description makes it sound more exquisite than it actually is. I don’t notice any of the rum raisin, or jasmine. That’s not to say it’s a bad snus, it’s just not as complex as it sounds above. The aroma is a smoky, dark, gentle tobacco character. The loose is moist, soft, and bakes really easily in the hand. It also stays formed in the lip for quite a while, up to an hour on average! The flavor seems like a milder Grov, or a darker Prima Fint. It’s a straightforward tobacco taste, dark in character, and accompanied by hints of smoke. The nicotine level also feels to be around the regular strength level. It was a rather tasty snus!
If you dig limited editions, or good loose snus in general, check out Svenskt Exportsnus. But do it soon, it will soon be gone!
