Produced by SP Tobacco, Taboca Portion is a regular portion snus which is supposedly “made from the finest hand selected tobaccos” and is a tobacco flavored snus. Every can of Taboca comes with 15 one gram portions with 10.5mg of nicotine each. I’ve previously enjoyed Taboca White, so I was excited to try the original portion variant.
With my can open, I noticed a strong aroma of herbal tobacco with undertones of bergamot and fig. Once I used a few portions, I began to notice that there is a consistent herbal tobacco taste which was complimented by the taste of fresh figs. I also picked up on just a tad of bergamot (not nearly as strong as other brands which use bergamot however) to make things interesting. I was impressed at how aromatic the tobacco was, and I find that its flavor became more complex as time passed.
The nicotine content was slightly higher than most regular portion snus (which have 8mg/portion), and since the portions were moist I began to feel a good nicotine buzz within the first few minutes of having a portion in. The portions themselves were made of the regular material, and they produce little drip until around the forty five minute mark.
As a whole, I really enjoyed the Taboca experience. The great tobacco taste pairs well with the fig and bergamot, and I definitely feel like SP really does choose high grade tobacco for this brand. My only complaint was that there are only 15 portions per can (as opposed to 24 in some brands), and this means that cans run out faster than usual (fortunately the portions are a full gram which gives better flavor). In my experience, the fresh tobacco and bergamot taste makes Taboca Portion pair well with citrus flavored wheat beers (such as Blue Moon Belgian White).
