Released earlier this year, Nord 66 is a line of snus developed by Skruf, the makers of popular snus brands such as Skruf Selection and Skruf Cranberry. Nordic Breeze is an original portion snus, and one of three which make up the new Nord 66 line. Originally available only in shops in Norway, Nord 66 snus is now available here on Northerner for purchase. Although I’m not a big fan of mint (which this name implies), I was eager to give all three brands a try. I haven’t been able to get any information on the line from Skruf themselves, but Nordic breeze has 22 grams of snus per can and is classified as a strong portion snus.
Upon opening my can of Nordic Breeze, I immediately noticed an aroma comprised of fresh mint and a slight bit of tobacco. Unlike regular Skruf, Nordic Breeze lacks any aroma of rose oil, and I don’t believe Nordic Breeze contains any). Upon placing a portion in my mouth, I immediately noticed a taste of sweet mint, and it reminded me quite a bit of Skruf Slim Nordic Fresh White. However, I found that in comparison Nordic Breeze had a richer mint taste as well as a more rounded tobacco flavor (which didn’t get bitter as time went on). After about twenty minutes, the mint flavor became increasingly weak and gave way to a mild tobacco taste.
One thing I really Enjoyed about Nordic Breeze is how long the portions lasted without producing any drip. Normally I find that Skruf tends to drip quite a bit after a while and develops a bitter taste (as mentioned in my review on Skruf Xtra Slim). However, this isn’t the case with Nordic Breeze (or any of the Nord 66 line for that matter). As time goes on, the mint taste becomes increasingly subdued and is replaced with a mild tobacco taste. I wonder if this was a deliberate move on Skruf’s part or not, but either way the lack of bitter drip is quite nice when leaving portions in for a long period of time. Even though it is an original portion snus, I had no problem keeping my portions in for over an hour without experiencing any drip.
Overall, I really Enjoyed Nordic Breeze. I feel that Skruf has made many improvements with their release of the Nord 66 line, and although I don’t plan on adding Nordic Breeze to my daily rotation anytime soon, I can definitely see myself using Nord 66 Strong and Extra Strong more as I love the taste and lack of drip. As an anecdote, I’d also like to mention that I really liked the can design. The green and grey colors mix very well and I find that the Nordic Breeze can are well thought out and designed. This doesn’t improve the flavor of the snus, but it is a nice touch!
