Launched late last year by Chicksnus, the Royal line of snus aims to provide a traditional tasting Swedish snus experience with a tobbacco dominant flavor complimented by hints of bergamot. Every can of Royal Original Portion comes with 18 grams of regular strength snus for a total of 20 portions.
Once I opened my can of Royal Original, I was greeted with an aroma of mellow tobacco, pepper, and just a hint of bergamot. The aroma was definitely stronger than Royal White, and I found it to be very pleasant (especially the pepper component). Not long after I popped in a portion, I began to taste mellow tobacco and pepper which began to develop within a few minutes. After five minutes, I began to taste subtle notes of bergamot which lasted for about twenty five minutes before gradually fading out. Aside from the tobacco and bergamot, I also noticed a peppery taste which worked well to compliment the tobacco flavor, especially when the bergamot began to subside around the twenty minute mark.
The portions were made of regular material, and they were slightly drier than other original portion brands that I’ve tried before. I usually began to feel a mild nicotine buzz begin to set in around the five minute mark, and it lasted for about thirty minutes before starting to diminish. I didn’t find the drip to be too bad with Royal Original, and I was generally able to keep portions in for a little over an hour without any issues.
As a whole, I enjoyed the flavor of Royal Original a little more than its white counterpart as I found the taste to be a little stronger. I recommend giving Royal snus a try if you’re a fan of tobacco dominant brands (such as General) and are looking to try something new! I found that Royal Original’s taste generally tended to pair well with wheat beers.
