Developed by GN Tobacco, Olde Ving Melon is part of GN’s Olde Ving lineup, and supposedly has a melon taste. As a fan of both fruit flavored and melons in general (see my review on Jakobsson’s Melon), I was looking forward to giving Olde Ving Melon a try. Each can of Olde Ving comes with 18g of average strength snus.
Upon opening my can of Olde Ving Melon, I immediately picked up a strong aroma of sweet, juicy melon and I found it to be quite pleasant. There was also a slight aroma of smokey tobacco which reminded me of Oden’s Extreme. Once I placed a portion in my mouth, I quickly began to pick up the taste of melon, and it was quite sugary. I didn’t really pick up on natural melon taste, instead I mostly noticed that the melon flavor was slightly candy tasting without going too far. Since melon alone is quite weak, I did enjoyed the candy taste. I also found it interesting that the tobacco here seems to compliment the melon flavor (usually its the reverse), and prevents the snus from tasting too sweet. Over a period of twenty minutes the melon flavor became increasingly subdued, and the taste of tobacco became stronger.
The portions were very moist, bordering on the excess. Picking up any of the portions left my fingers slightly wet, but they weren’t drenched in moisture like some other brands I’ve seen. The drip was average, and I began to notice a drip after the thirty-five minute mark, and I removed the snus due to a bitter taste after about an hour. The snus was of average strength, and I began to notice a slight nicotine buzz within two minutes due to the high moisture level of the portions.
Overall, Olde Ving Melon is a tasty fruit flavored snus that doesn’t overdo it with a fruit taste. The blending of melon and tobacco makes for a fun way to mix things up every now and then. Olde Ving Melon pairs exceptionally well with fruit flavored drinks (such as Pina Colada) on a warm spring day.
