Released last summer by Fiedler & Lundgren, Lundgrens Slim Dark Ice is a regular strength white portion snus which is said to have a taste of licorice and mint. Moreover, Slim Dark Ice uses perforated portions designed to increase the amount of flavor you can taste. In the past I’ve enjoyed both Lundgrens Vit as well as Forbakad (which offers pre-baked loose portions) so I was excited when I had the opportunity to try Slim Dark Ice. Every can of Slim Dark Ice comes with 16.8 grams of average strength snus per can.
Not long after getting my can open, I soon noticed a strong licorice aroma as well as background notes of menthol and just a tad of sweet mint. When I tried a portion, I found that I would first notice a slight menthol cooling sensation which was then followed up by a natural tasting licorice flavor which begins to set in after a couple minutes. Aside from the hint of menthol, I didn’t notice much of a mint taste, and after the licorice began to subside around the half hour mark I was left with a taste of salty tobacco which I enjoyed until removing my portions.
Slim Dark Ice uses a perforated portion system found in other Lundgrens products, and the perforations in the portion material are designed to allow greater amounts of flavor to be released. I I definitely noticed a faster flavor and nicotine release than most white portions, but still longer than original portions. One downside I noticed with the perforations is that sometimes a bit of snus will leak out of a portion, but it generally isn’t very much. Furthermore, the portions are long and slim which I find makes it easy to discreetly keep portions as well as drink beverages without getting your portion too wet. On average I usually kept my portions in for a little over an hour before taking them out due to the drip getting a little too strong for my tastes.
As a whole, Lundgrens Slim Dark Ice is a tasty licorice dominant snus with a slight cooling sensation as an added twist. I recommend trying out Slim Dark Ice if you’re a fan of licorice and are looking for something which will fit nicely in your daily rotation, but don’t expect much of a mint taste with this one. I find that the licorice flavor of Dark Ice tends to taste quite nice after a dark roast coffee during a cold winter morning!
