Manufactured by Fiedler & Lundgren of Sweden, Knekt Original Portion is a tobacco dominant snus which is complimented by a little bit of citrus. Each can of Knekt Original comes with 0.8 grams of regular strength snus per portion and 16 grams per can.
After I opened my can of Knekt, I was quickly greeted with an aroma of herbal tobacco and it smelled a bit like being in a large grassy field in late summer. In the background there were notes of bergamot and just a tad of lemon. After putting in a portion, I noticed an herbal and mild taste from the tobacco, and it was very pleasant. I also noticed hints of citrus (a cross between bergamot and lemon), whose tartness I found really paired well with the herbal and earthy taste of the tobacco. Over time the bergamot began to diminish, and after the fifteen minute mark I was only able to taste mild tobacco. However, the tobacco taste then began to undergo a transition, shifting away from herbs and towards a salty earthiness which became increasingly strong yet equally tasty.
The portions were of average quality and each one contains about 8mg of nicotine. Because they are fairly moist, I began to notice a moderate nicotine buzz set in after only a few minutes, and I also noticed the flavors almost immediately (compared to about five minutes with white portion brands). I generally left my portions in for fifty minutes to an hour before removing them due to excess drip.
Overall, Knekt Original Portion is a tasty brand geared towards lovers of tobacco dominant flavors, and I highly recommend trying it if you enjoy having a tobacco taste develop over time. Due to the strong herbal component of the tobacco, I find that Knekt Original pairs well with teas as well as hoppy beers such as India Pale Ales.
