Produced by AG Snus, Kapten Original is a regular portion snus brand with 18 grams of regular strength snus per can. Being someone who enjoys tobacco dominant snus brands, I was curious to give it a Kapten Original a go. I’m also a fan of AG’s Blue Ocean, so I had high hopes for Kapten Original.
Upon opening my can of Kapten Original, I immediately noticed a tobacco aroma with floral undertones and a hint of bergamot. The aroma reminded me quite a bit of Lucky Strike’s unique tobacco taste, but with a slightly floral twist to it. Although the aroma resembled Lucky Strike snus, the actual taste was quite different. It started off with a slightly sweet herbal flavor which lasted for about ten minutes, and then developed into a very mild tobacco flavor as time went on. I noticed very little salt present, and even after the one hour mark I didn’t experience any bitter tasting drip (although I could hardly taste the tobacco at this point). One thing I really enjoyed was that Kapten Original produced very little drip. Even after the fourty-five minute mark there was hardly any drip present, making it a great snus to leave in for fairly long periods of time.
The portions were only slightly moist, and to me seemed to be more in between original and white portion snus. As a result the nicotine hit was a little slower to come on than regular snus. When it did I got a slight buzz and it was quite pleasant. The buzz lasted for about twenty five minutes before starting to fade.
Overall, I enjoyed Kapten Original as a mild tobacco dominant brand, and the initial herbal flavor really complimented the tobacco in a nice way. I also liked how little drip Kapten produced, as well as the lack of an overly salty taste as time passed. I find that Kapten Original goes especially well with tea and also compliments the hoppy taste of IPA beers.
