Produced by Gotlandssnus AB in Sweden, Jakobsson’s Wintergreen Strong is a snus which is geared towards North American markets. With a number of wintergreen flavored snus brands on the market, I was curious to give Jakobsson’s Wintergreen a try to see if it stands out (and I had high expectations as I’m a fan of other members of the Jakobsson’s family including Melon Strong and Licorice). Every can of Wintergreen Strong comes with 20 grams of strong snus.
Upon opening up my can of Jakobsson’s Wintergreen Strong, I noticed a very strong wintergreen aroma, and similar to Thunder Wintergreen it smelled a lot like pink wintergreen mints. I didn’t detect any tobacco aromas, only the wintergreen. After placing a portion in my mouth, I was greeted with a strong burst of wintergreen flavor and it was very refreshing. The wintergreen was very natural tasting, and it wasn’t overly sweet like some brands are. I didn’t really detect any tobacco taste, and it was only around the thirty minute mark that the wintergreen began to subside and was replaced with a salty flavor.
The portions were the same material used in other Jakobsson’s snus, and I enjoyed how full they were with snus as Jakobsson’s snus still has one gram portions (unlike a number of brands which have switched to .8-.9 grams). The portions were quite moist, and as a result I began to feel a strong nicotine rush begin to set in within two minutes. I generally took portions out when they began to drip about forty minutes after putting them in.
Although I’m not normally a huge fan of mint snuses, I do enjoy the taste of wintergreen, and I found that Jakobsson’s Wintergreen Strong has a very nice natural wintergreen taste. I found Wintergreen worked well as a refreshing post meal treat, and I definitely plan to add it to my daily rotation from time to time in order to mix things up!
