Launched just this month by JTI Sweden, Gustavus Slim Cut Salvi is part of a new lineup of tasty yet affordable snus and is said to have a taste of licorice and violet. Much like mint, licorice is a highly popular snus flavor and there’s quite a few brands (General Classic Licorice, Offroad Lakrits, Jakobsson’s Licorice, & Mocca Lakrits just to name a few!), but in terms of violet snuses I only know of Catch Violet which I never had the chance to taste! Every can of Slim Cut Salvi comes with 22 regular strength portions per can with a total of 15.4 grams of snus.
Soon after I got my can open, I noticed something interesting about Salvi’s aroma. When I keep the can almost fully closed and take in the aromas, I notice that natural licorice is very dominant. However, when I have the can fully open I find that there’s a floral aroma (violet) which is nearly as powerful. After giving a few portions a try, I found there was a mixture of violet and licorice tastes which created a floral licorice taste with only a hint of tobacco in the background. I would definitely say that the flavor is different isn’t like any other licorice brands that I’ve tried before, but I’m not sure if I’m entirely sold on the taste.
The portion material was very similar to Slim Cut Blue’s, and I must say that I enjoy their soft feel more than most brands out there. On average, I felt a nicotine buzz begin to set in around three minutes and last for about twenty five before starting to subside. Salvi is also a white portion snus, and I found that portions tended to be dry on the outside yet moderately moist inside which made for a nice experience without producing much drip early on.
As a whole, I must say that Salvi was tasty, but I did find that the violet flavor was quite strong and it took away from the licorice (which I preferred) taste. I suggest trying Slim Cut Salvi if you enjoy both licorice and violet or are looking for a unique tasting snus!
