Launched only a few weeks ago by JTI Sweden, the Gustavus Slim Cut series is aimed at offering an affordable yet enjoyable range of snus. Just this week I received a shipment in the mail containing the entire series (which currently consists of Blue, Salvi, and Strong), and of the three I decided to review Blue first. Described as having a “tobacco flavor with elements of juniper berry”, every can of Gustavus Slim Blue comes with 22 portions for a total of 15.4 grams of regular strength snus.
Not long after I got my can open, I was greeted with a fairly strong aroma of fresh tobacco and juniper. I also noticed hints of citrus in the background (tangerine mostly) as well as just a touch of lavender. After trying out a few portions, I began to notice that they initially started out having a fresh, earthy tobacco taste which creates a pleasant base for the hints of juniper and citrus which I could taste for about fifteen minutes before . As time passed the tobacco taste became increasingly saltier, and I generally found myself removing portions after about an hour when I began to lose most of the flavor. I did find that Slim Cut Blue reminds me of the juniper and tobacco of Swedish Match’s Goteborgs Rape, but it definitely has enough of a twist to make it enjoyable in its own right!
The first thing I noticed about the portions were how soft they were, nearly as soft as Swedish Match’s Natufibe. As the series name implies, the portions are long and slim, and I felt that they fit comfortably in my mouth without any issues. Moreover, I found that the snus was evenly spaced out inside the portions and I didn’t need to roll them in my finger at all. The portion material was fairly dry, yet the snus inside was moderately moist and I began to feel a pleasant nicotine buzz start to set in within a few minutes.
Overall, I must say that I’m quite impressed with Slim Cut Blue in terms of both taste and quality. The portion material is nice and soft, and the flavor is quite strong for a lower priced brand. I definitely recommend trying out Slim Cut Blue if you’re a fan of tobacco dominant snus brands, and I can definitely see myself adding this to my daily rotation from time to time! I also find that Slim Cut Blue pairs quite well with a cup of tea or after some nice dark roast coffee!
