Created by a small company known as Gringo Snus, Gringo Loose is a tobacco dominant snus brand. Every can of Gringo loose comes with 50 grams of average strength snus per can (which is more snus than most loose varieties offer). As someone who enjoys tobacco dominant snus brands, I was looking forward to giving Gringo a whirl and posting my thoughts here on the Northerner Blog!
Upon opening my can of Gringo, I was greeted with an aroma of nutty tobacco with hints of spice, and it was quite pleasant. After placing a hand-baked portion into my mouth, I soon noticed a nutty tobacco taste which reminded me a little bit of Ettan and it was quite tasty. After a few minutes, I began to detect hints of spice which complemented the tobacco taste without overpowering it. After about fiften minutes the tobacco taste became less nutty and increasingly salty & spicy and I began to lose flavor around the thirty minute mark. I removed portions after about forty-five minutes when they became too salty for my tastes.
Gringo Loose has a medium-fine grind, and it is easy to make portions by hand or with an IceTool. The portions I made held together fairly well, and I experienced minimal drip until around the forty minute mark. Because of the grind, I found that Gringo was soft and comfortable in my lip. With portions of about one gram I began to notice an average nicotine buzz after a few minutes, and it was quite pleasant and lasted for around twenty minutes before starting the subside. The good thing about loose snus is that you can create portions of any size, allowing you to increase or decrease the nicotine strength to your liking.
Overall, I enjoyed Gringo Loose quite a bit, and I feel that Gringo Snus has done a good job with this brand. The tobacco dominant flavor combined with the ease of forming portions makes Gringo an attractive option for those looking to balance quality and price (for the amount of snus you get per can, Gringo is great for those on a budget!). In my experience, Gringo Loose pairs well with lighter beers as well as various types of tea.
