Introduced earlier this year by Swedish Match, General G3 is a new line of snus designed to replace the (now discontinued) General Long brand. An average strength snus, each can of General G3 Normal Strength comes with 24 portions for a total of 21.6 grams of snus per can.
After opening my can, I soon detected notes of citrus with some subtle hints of mellow herbal tobacco in the background. The first thing that I noticed after popping in a portion was a fairly strong bergamot taste which was complimented by hints of earthy, mellow tobacco which I found to be quite enjoyable. As time passed, the bergamot flavor became increasingly mild, and the tobacco taste began to take center stage and it had a hint of pepperyness to it. Around the twenty minute mark I found that the tobacco became increasingly salty, creating an interesting taste which slowly developed into the forty-five minute mark.
The portions were slim and looked to be just about the same size as General Long portions (although I don’t have any more Long on hand to do an exact comparison), and fit quite comfortably in my upper lip. Moreover, the portions were a bit moist, and as a result I began to feel a pleasant nicotine buzz set in within two minutes and it lasted for about thirty minutes before slowly subsiding. I found that the portions produced very little drip, and as a result I usually kept portions in for up to an hour before removing them.
As a whole, I enjoyed using General G3 quite a bit as a daily rotation snus, and the 24 portions per can was generous and long lasting. I highly recommend giving G3 Normal Strength a try if you’re a fan of General Long or are looking for a fairly mild tobacco dominant snus to add to your daily rotation, and G3 pairs quite well with teas as well as refreshing lagers during the summer!
