Produced by Winnington AB, Epok Mint Slim is another member of the expanding Epok line of snus. Epok is known for having white snus inside their portions, which is thanks to a special manufacturing process that bleaches the snus in a safe manner. Having previously reviewed several members of the Epok family (and enjoying some of them), I was looking forward to seeing what Epok Mint Slim tastes like. Every can of Mint Slim comes with 16.8 grams of average strength snus with 0.7 grams per slim format portion.
Once I opened my can of Mint Slim, I quickly noticed a strong mint aroma and not much else. The mint smell was quite natural but also very plain, and when I placed a portion in my mouth I was soon greeted with a taste of sweet mint. The mint flavor lasted for about twenty five minutes before it slowly became increasingly mild. I usually left my portions in for about forty five minutes before taking them out because the flavor was hardly detectable anymore. Around the twenty minute mark I began to taste subtle hints of salty tobacco, but it remained mild throughout my session (possibly due to the bleached tobacco).
The portions are made with very soft material, and they use a slim format design which makes them both comfortable as well as easy to conceal in your lip. I think that aside from Swedish Match’s Natufibe portions (found in General Tailored), the Epok Slim portions are my second favorite of any snus brand. Like the rest of the Epok family, Epok Mint uses snus which has been bleached white. As I’ve mentioned in previous Epok reviews, I like the bleached portions for when its close to bedtime, that way if I fall asleep with a portion in I won’t stain my pillow!
Overall, I felt that Epok Mint Slim was only so-so compared to other members of the Epok line. The mint is not too bad, but its certainly nothing to write home about (especially since there’s already plenty of mint snus brands on the market). Despite the relatively bland flavor, I did enjoy the slim portion format and the minimal drip was also a plus. If you’re a big fan of mint snus (and have tried most other brands), then I definitely recommend at least giving Epok Mint a shot just to mix things up a little bit.
