Manufactured by Winnington AB of Sweden, Epok Kaffe is a coffee flavored snus which undergoes a special purification process to render it white. Not that long ago I enjoyed reviewing Epok Blabar (Blueberry), so I was looking forward to seeing how the coffee variant of Epok would compare. Every can of Kaffe has 16.8 grams of average strength snus and 0.7 grams per portion.
As soon as I opened my can of Kaffe, I was greeted with an aroma that reminded me of a cup of rich, roasted coffee with a very subtle hint of mellow tobacco in the background. Kaffe’s taste was very similar to a cup of dark coffee, and I found that the flavor stayed consistent but became increasingly saltier over time. I didn’t really notice a tobacco flavor start to develop until around the twenty minute mark, but even then it was quite mild in comparison to the coffee taste.
Like the rest of the Epok lineup, Kaffe’s slim format portion design made for a comfortable fit in my mouth without any issues. Personally, I enjoy the purified tobacco as I tend to fall asleep with a portion in and I never run the risk of staining my pillow with the white portions. For everyday use however, there isn’t much of a difference between the two styles in my opinion. Over time I felt that the drip became quite bitter, and I normally removed portions a little before the one hour mark. I found that a buzz slowly began to set it around the five minute mark, but the nicotine wasn’t very strong compared to other brands I’ve had.
Overall, I found that Kaffe definitely had an interesting flavor, but I did find it to be a little on the mellow side both in terms of taste and nicotine strength. However, considering there’s very few coffee snus brands currently on the market, I definitely recommend Epok Kaffe to coffee lovers who are interested in mixing up their daily rotation. Naturally, Kaffe pairs well with coffee, but I also find that it makes for a great combination when paired with cream liqueurs such as Bailey’s Irish Cream.
