Meet Kapten Vargtass. If you exist outside of the Nordic region, you’re probably not familiar with Vargtass. Don’t feel bad, this snus was the first time I’d ever heard of it myself. According to Wikipedia, it is “an alcoholic cocktail originating from the northern parts of Sweden and Finland. It consists of vodka and lingonberry juice, typically shaken together with ice.” Also Vargtass translates to “wolf’s paw”. The flavor description for this one says, “Kapten Vargtass Extra Stark White is a is a truly traditional snus with a taste of lingonberry, but the taste has been given a modern twist. This snus has a regular sized white pouch.” There’s 20 portions in a can, and a 15mg/g nicotine strength.
The aroma of lingonberry is quite present with this one, and it comes with a subtle tobacco character. There also seems to be a little menthol in there. The portions are nice and plump, and fill out the lip quite well! The flavor is really unique. Lingonberry is definitely in there, but it’s a cool/fresh taste, perhaps due to a presence of menthol. It also feels refreshing in the lip. There’s a soft tobacco flavor in the mix as well. It’s a truly unique flavor. The nicotine level feels to be between strong and extra strong, and the flavor lasts up to about an hour on average!
If you want to try something really unique, check out Kapten Vargtass. It’s a great end of the day snus, and not like anything else on the market. And it’s nice to see something that isn’t (yet another) mint.
