Review Preface: I am not a dip user. I am a long-term Swedish Snus user. Please take this into consideration when reading my review!
Today, we’re going to be talking about Timberwolf Wintergreen Pouches, a product by Pinkerton Tobacco, which is owned by Swedish Match. I mostly review snus but have had some request for dip reviews, so I figured I would go with Pinkerton products, as I’ve been a Swedish Match fan for many years and I know they ensure quality.
Looking at this can, it reminds me a lot of a snus can! It even has a catch lid, or, as they call it, a “Stow & Throw” compartment. For those who may not be familiar with this, it’s a place to discard of your used pouches. Remember! With dip they’re called “pouches” and with snus they’re called “portions”.
The taste is described as having “a smooth, classing wintergreen flavor“. Each can comes with 15 pouches and each pouch is around 1.5 grams, much bigger than regular Swedish Snus portions! I’m not sure of the nicotine content, but looking around online I was able to find it listed as 14.1 mg/g total nicotine, and 5.2 mg/g free (usable) nicotine. So, the strength is most likely between regular and strong, when looking at it on paper.
To preface this review, I’m not a fan of wintergreen. I use it from time to time, but it isn’t a personal favorite. When you open the can, the aroma is straight-up, classic, American wintergreen. The smoky tobacco presence I notice with other dips is there, but it’s way behind the wintergreen smell. Looking at this photo, you can tell the pouches are quite moist. They are very large, but the pouches themselves feel comfortable in the lip. The flavor is a lot like the aroma. Wintergreen is the most dominant force in the taste of this product and it comes through in a big way. It’s present, and a little sweet, but not too sweet. I do notice some smokiness and a gentle tobacco character in the background but, like the aroma, it’s way back there. The nicotine strength on this one, comparing to Swedish Snus, feels to be around the regular strength to strong range. It does provide a solid kick. The flavor, on average, lasts about 30 minutes.
Again, I’m not a wintergreen fan. However, I imagine those who like the taste of wintergreen but want it in a pouched version will find this to be a good option. Throw a can or two of Timberwolf Wintergreen Pouches on your next order at Northerner.com. It may be your new favorite!
