Produced by the U.S. Smokeless Tobacco Company, Skoal Long Cut Cherry is a fruity take on the sweet taste of Skoal Long Cut dip. As someone who enjoys a number of Skoal products, I was eager to pack a lip once the can arrived at my door.
Once I got my can open, I noticed a strong cherry aroma, with little to no tobacco scent perceptible. The cherry flavor didn’t remind me of real cherries (whose smell can be very mild); it was more like cherry flavored candies and quite a treat for my nose. After packing a decent sized lip, I began to notice an explosion of candy cherries with a slight burn which I found to be very nice (it reminded me of the sour feeling you get from sour cherry candies). The cherry flavor persisted until about the twenty-five minute mark, and after that it I noticed a transition towards a salty taste.
Compared to other brands of dip (such as Copenhagen Long Cut), I found Skoal Cherry to be a little on the mild side nicotine wise. However, this did allow me to pack large lips which produced a strong burst of flavor. Due to Cherry’s long cut nature I was able to pack lips easily (and removing lips was almost as easy!). However, I did notice that I salivated more than with most dips due to the fruity taste, so as a result I generally only kept lips in for around forty minutes before removing them due to experiencing too much drip.
In summary, Skoal Long Cut Cherry is a great tasting fruit flavored dip which is easy to pack and is great for beginnings. The flavor lasts a decent amount of time for a fruit dip, and it goes well with lighter ales. My only complaint is that it begins to drip quicker than other brands, but I feel like this is to be expected when dealing with fruit! Long Cut Cherry is also great for seasoned dippers when they’re looking to mix their daily routine up a little.
