Review Preface: I am not a dip user. I am a long-term Swedish Snus user. Please take this into consideration when reading my review!
Today, we’re going to be talking about Renegades Wintergreen Pouches, a product by Pinkerton Tobacco, which is owned by Swedish Match. I mostly review snus but have had some request for dip reviews, so I figured I would go with Pinkerton products, as I’ve been a Swedish Match fan for many years and I know they ensure quality.
Looking at this can, it reminds me a lot of a snus can! It even has a catch lid, or, as they call it, a “Stow & Throw” compartment. For those who may not be familiar with this, it’s a place to discard of your used pouches. Remember! With dip they’re called “pouches” and with snus they’re called “portions”.
The taste is described as having “a fresh taste of wintergreen“. The total can weight is 20 grams, and contains 20 pouches (5 more than the Timberwolf pouches I’ve been reviewing lately), which means 1 gram pouches. This is more in line with what I’m used to with snus. I’m not sure of the nicotine content, but looking around online I was able to find it listed as 13.4 mg/g total nicotine, and 2.4 mg/g free (usable) nicotine. So, the strength looks like it’s a little lower than the Timberwolf products I’ve reviewed.
I think it is very important to mention that I don’t really like the taste of wintergreen. However, I will try and remain as fair and balanced as possible going into this review.
When I open the can, the aroma is, of course, wintergreen. It’s interesting though, because it’s a mild wintergreen smell with some smokiness, and a little tobacco. The pouches are moist, plump, and feel more like what I’m used to – at 1 full gram. The taste is predominantly wintergreen, but it’s pretty mellow. Behind it, I notice some smokiness as well as a light tobacco character. In the background, there’s a little spice which reminds me of pepper. As far as the nicotine strength goes, it feels a lot like regular strength snus products – not too weak, not too strong. As far as the flavor itself goes, it seems to last generally around 30 minutes.
Again, I’m not a wintergreen fan, but if you like wintergreen, give Renegades Wintergreen Pouches a try, you may enjoy them!
