Produced by the American Snuff Company, Grizzly Dark Wintergreen Pouches is a wintergreen flavored dipping tobacco available in snus style pouches. Just this spring, I reviewed the regular Dark Wintergreen, and as a fan of wintergreen flavored dips I found its natural taste to be a highly enjoyable experience. Each can of Grizzly Dark Wintergreen Pouches is made with 100% U.S. Grown Tobacco with 18 pouches totaling 0.84oz (23.9g) of dip per can.
After opening my can of Dark Wintergreen, I was soon hit with a pleasant wintergreen aroma, complimented by undertones of roasted tobacco. Not long after, I placed a pouch in my bottom lip (although you can put it in your upper lip if you prefer!) and waited a few minutes for the juices to get flowing. I found that initially I got a natural tasting wintergreen which wasn’t overly sweet like some brands tend to be. I also noticed a roasted tobacco flavor with the pouches, however it only really started to develop once the wintergreen flavor began to subside around the fifteen minute mark.
The pouches were made out of the same material used in most snus pouches, and in terms of size they were about as large as maxi snus portions. However, unlike snus (which doesn’t require spitting), dip does so I didn’t find the portions to be all that convenient except for removing your dip (which isn’t took hard with some long cut and a bit of practice). The pouches were moist to the touch, and I generally began to feel a moderate nicotine buzz set in after only a few minutes. One thing I think that the can could really benefit from is a space for used pouches (like snus cans have) as this would make it easier to dispose of the pouches at times when you’re away from a trash can or bathroom.
Overall, I loved the taste of Grizzly Dark Wintergreen itself, but I wasn’t such a huge fan of the pouches. I enjoy having control over my dip size and strength, and unlike snus there’s no strong or extra strong dipping pouches if you’re looking for a bit extra of a kick. Despite my preference for the regular Dark Wintergreen, I do however feel that the pouches can be handy for those who really want to dip yet remain as discreet as possible!
