Developed by tobacco giant Swedish Match, Kaliber Vit Special is a white portion tobacco flavored snus brand with an average strength nicotine level. Swedish Match touts the Kaliber brand of snus as being a “modern, attractively priced alternative, Kaliber, to accommodate consumers who want high-quality low-priced snus. “Kaliber is a straightforward portion-packaged snus for price-conscious consumers who are unwilling to compromise on quality.” Each can of Kaliber Vit Special contains 13 grams of snus with 0.65 grams of snus per portion.
Upon opening my can of Kaliber Vit Special, I noticed a tobacco dominant aroma, complimented by citrus and floral undertones. After putting in portion, I began to taste a mild tobacco flavor and a tad of citrus in the background. The flavor wasn’t anything too special, and the tobacco flavor lasted for about a half hour before it began to develop into a saltier and more bitter taste (I stopped tasting bergamot around the fifteen minute mark). I ended up taking my portions out around the fifty minute mark as I began to feel that it was getting to be too bitter for my tastes. In a way, Special reminded me quite a bit of the General line of snus but with slightly more subdued flavors. I do wish that the portions had a little more tobacco in them, as I feel that it would probably enrich the taste quite a bit.
The portions were standard quality, and definitely not as soft as snuses which use Swedish Match’s newly developed natufibe (as in General Tailored). The portions were fairly dry, and I began to notice a nicotine buzz come on after about five minutes. I didn’t experience too much drip with Special, but the flavor did become increasingly bitter as time passed.
Overall, I wasn’t a huge fan of Kaliber Special Vit. The taste wasn’t anything special, and the flavor began to become bitter fairly early on. However, if you’re on a budget and are looking for a tobacco dominant snus brand which resembles General snus, then I recommend giving Kaliber Vit Special a try.
