Today’s picture of the week is of Romeo y Julieta snus. Manufactured with authentic Cuban tobacco, Romeo y Julieta is one of my all-time favorite snus brands and has a slight licorice flavor to accompany a delicious tobacco taste.
Manufactured by AG Snus (the makers of Blue Ocean), Jägarpris Vit is a white portion snus which is of average strength containing 8mg of nicotine per portion, and 20 grams of snus in every can.
As soon as I opened my can of Jägarpris, I immediately noticed a strong floral aroma, which reminded me of flowers and open grassy fields. I could also detect a small tobacco aroma, but it was much more toned down than the floral scent was. Once I placed a portion in my mouth, I soon began to detect a floral taste which reminded me quite a bit of the taste that I get when I occasionally chew on prairie grass. As a whole, the flavor I could best compare it to would be that of
The portion material was quite soft, and the tobacco was evenly distributed throughout. Being a white portion snus, the portions were quite dry, and as a result produced very little drip. I was able to keep my portion in for over an hour without any drip, but the floral flavor became progressively weaker once I reached the thirty minute mark.
Overall, Jägarpris is a great snus for those who enjoy the taste of floral flavored snus blends. Although I did enjoy my can of Jägarpris, I don’t plan to add it to my daily rotation as I felt that it was slightly too floral with not a strong enough tobacco flavor for my tastes.
Manufactured by AG Snus, Blue Ocean is one of the oldest brands of snus, having been around since 1864. It is a standard strength snus, with 8mg of nicotine per portion and 20 grams of snus per can. Unlike most brands of snus which come as either original portion or white portion, Blue Ocean comes in a Blue portion format which has a cool and refreshing menthol taste.
Upon cracking open my can of Blue Ocean, the first thing I noticed was an aroma of tobacco and it was quite nice. I also detected a slight bit of a floral scent, but it wasn’t very strong at all. Upon placing the first portion in my mouth, I immediately began to taste a refreshing menthol flavor which felt very cool on my lip. This menthol flavor reminded me quite a bit of the now discontinued Lucky Strike Nites, except that Blue Ocean was much less runny and I felt that it paired much better with the tobacco flavor than Nites did. After about ten minutes, the menthol flavor began to subside a little bit, and I began to taste a tobacco flavor. This flavor was quite balanced, and I felt that it was really well complimented by the menthol. On a hot summer day, I found Blue Ocean to be quite refreshing!
The portions were comfortable, and they are made with a blue material. My only complaint was that the snus tended to be lumped all in one side of the portion, requiring me to break it up a little bit to even out the tobacco inside. The portions were slightly moist, and I found that they had the perfect moisture level, allowing me to keep a portion in for about an hour without experiencing any drip whatsoever. The menthol flavor began to subside after the twenty five minute mark, and was completely gone by the hour mark. The tobacco flavor however stayed there throughout, and the snus didn’t become overly salty at any point.
In summary, I feel that Blue Ocean is a terrific snus with a nice menthol and tobacco mix, and is one of the only snus brands to have a great cooling menthol effect now that Lucky Strike Nites has been discontinued. I recommend this snus to anyone who enjoys menthol (including smokers of menthol cigarettes such as Newports who are looking to make the switch from smoking to snus). As a former menthol smoker myself, I really enjoyed this brand and can definitely see myself keeping Blue Ocean in my daily rotation as well as using it extensively during hot summer days!
Released by the English heavy metal band Motörhead at the Sweden Rock Festival in June, Motörhead by Grovsnus is a new limited edition tobacco flavored snus which is being manufactured by Swedish Match. With 8mg of nicotine per portion and 21.6 grams of snus per can, Motörhead by Grovsnus is classified as a regular portion snus and is of average strength. Mikkey Dee, longtime drummer of the band is Swedish and a big fan of snus, being quoted as saying “I love snus and have been using Grovsnus as long as I can remember.”
Upon first opening my can of Motörhead, I was greeted with an aroma of smoky tobacco which I immediately drew a liking to. As soon as I put a portion in my mouth, I noticed a taste of pure tobacco, with a slight hint of smokeyness which really helped to round out the flavor of the tobacco. One thing that I found interesting about this snus was the lack of a salty taste which is characteristic of many tobacco flavored brands such as General Strong White. I found that without the salty taste, I was better able to enjoy the true tobacco flavor of Motörhead, and it was certainly interesting for a change.
The portions fit quite comfortably in my lip, and produce a great flavor. They were quite moist (especially the first few), but not overly so. I was able to leave my portions in for almost an hour without experiencing any drip, nor did I experience a sour taste that I occasionally get after keeping a tobacco flavored snus in for a long time. Due to the high moisture content, I experienced a fairly strong nicotine buzz with a rapid onset, making Motörhead great to use in the morning when I want a quick buzz to go along with my coffee.
As a big fan of tobacco flavored snus brands, Motörhead really hit the spot for me, and its a great snus for lovers of a pure tobacco taste in their snus. I also found that it goes extremely well with coffee, strong dark ales, and whiskey. I can definitely see myself adding this to my daily rotation to use when I want a quick nicotine kick as well as a delicious tobacco taste. If you enjoy tobacco flavored snus blends, then I highly recommend giving this one a try before it is no longer available!
After writing a previous post covering the situation regarding shipping snus to European countries, I’ve come back to write an update which contains some great news! On the Northerner main site, there is a special section which has been developed called Snus to Europe (you can find it when you click on the “Products in the US warehouse” section). From within this section, you can order an array of snus brands including Jakobssons, Northerner, and Odens snus products. Once your order has been placed, these products will be promptly shipped to your address in Europe. In addition to the various types of snus available, you are also able to purchase cigars, cigarillos, snuff, tobacco free snus, and accessories once again!
Finally, I have received some Motörhead by Grovsnus, which I talked about in a previous blog post here. I’m currently working on a review which should be up tomorrow, so keep checking back to see what I think of it!
