It has recently been brought to my attention that Swedish Match (one of the largest Swedish Snus manufacturers) has filed a patent for a new type of snus called Nick & Johnny Green Spyke Xtra Strong. The filing (with brand logo) indicates that the snus will be flavored with cactus (a desert plant not native to Sweden!), and it will be available for purchase within the coming months. Green Spyke is intended to be released under the popular Nick & Johnny snus lineup, which is a brand that I have enjoyed quite a bit in the past.
Since Green Spyke is supposed to be an extra strong snus brand, I expect it to have a high nicotine content (probably around 16mg of nicotine per gram of snus), so I imagine that it will produce quite a nice buzz. In keeping with the rest of the Nick & Johnny line, I’m also pretty sure that every can of Spyke will be arranged in a cool star formation, which is something unique to Swedish Match products. Spyke’s cactus flavor seems pretty interesting, and it is definitely a unique flavor for snus, so I’m curious to see how it ends up tasting. I’ve never had anything cactus flavored before (what would it even taste like?!), so it will definitely be an interesting experience for me! There is some precedence for cactus flavored snus however, as Fiedler & Lundgren (makers of Lucky Strike Snus among others) once released a cactus flavor a long time ago but I never had the chance to try it.
Expect N&J Spyke Xtra Strong to arrive during sometime during week 19 (April 6th, 2013). I look forward to trying a snus with such a unique flavor, so expect a review here on the Northerner Blog once its released!
