Manufactured by AG Snus, Kapten Lakrits Vit is a licorice snus with undertones of tobacco flavor. Each can of Kapten Lakrits comes with 16.8 grams of regular strength white snus with 24 portions per can. Lakrits (licorice in Swedish) is a popular snus flavor, and I’ve previously reviewed quite a few licorice flavored brands in the past so I was curious to see how Kapten Lakrits would stand up.
Upon opening my can of Kapten Lakrits, I soon noticed a strong aroma of black licorice which was complimented by slight undertones of tobacco and herbs. The aroma was very natural smelling, and it was very pleasant. Upon placing a portion in my mouth, I soon began to taste a mild black licorice flavor. As time went on, the licorice taste slowly began to subdue and I was left with a mild tobacco flavor. The snus was not too salty nor was it overly sweet, and I found that because of the mild flavor I could drink different things such as coffee while providing only a flavor. I experience virtually no drip with Kapten Lakrits, and after the one hour mark I could barely taste the snus (which was better than it becoming overly bitter tasting like Skruf does).
The portions were of average quality, and I did need to roll portions a little bit with my fingers prior to use to ensure that the tobacco was evenly dispersed. As a white portion snus, I found Kapten Lakrits to be quite low in nicotine content and it didn’t give me much too of a buzz. The portions weren’t very runny either which I enjoyed quite a bit.
Overall, I found Kapten Lakrits to be a great mild snus (in both taste and nicotine content). On the plus side, the licorice flavor is quite pure and there’s very little drip throughout. However I did find it to be lacking in nicotine strength, and the portions only have 0.7 grams of snus each which I felt to be a tad low. I recommend trying Kapten Lakrits if you’re looking for a fairly mild but long lasting licorice flavored snus brand and it pairs quite well with licorice or anise flavored drinks such as Ouzo.
