Released just this March by Gotlandssnus, Jakobssons Gullviva & Viol is a limited edition seasonal snus with a taste of Gullviva (Cowslip) and Violet. From what I could find on the internet, Gullviva translates to Cowslip. Also known as the ‘Keys of Heaven’, Cowslip is an herb which has many uses including in English cooking to flavor country wine and vinegar as well as Spanish cuisine as a salad green. I was excited to try Gullviva & Viol, as the flavor is quite unique for a snus and as a fan of several members of the Jakobssons Brand I was curious to see how this one would stack up! Gullviva & Viol comes with 20 one gram portions with a nicotine strength of 9mg per portion, for a total of 20 grams of snus per can.
Soon after opening my can of Gullviva & Viol, I began to notice an aroma of violet, combined with sweetness as well as hints of an herb (which I assume to be Cowslip). After placing a portion in my lip, I soon began to notice a floral taste of violet, with hints of the Cowslip in the background. The combination was definitely an interesting one, and it was made even more so with the introduction of an herbal tobacco taste beginning around the twenty minute mark. There was also a slight sweet taste present throughout, and it helped to round out the herbal and floral tastes.
The portions are the same style used in the rest of the Jakobssons lineup, and I like that they’re a full gram as this helps to create a more pronounced flavor. The portions are regular format and and moderately moist, so expect to feel a nicotine buzz begin to set in within a minute or two. The buzz is normal in strength, and I usually found that it lasted for a little over twenty five minutes before subsiding. On average I usually kept portions in for an hour before removing them due to a decline in flavor.
As I whole, I would say that I found Jakobssons Gullviva & Viol to be an interestingly flavored snus with a nice balance. While using my can, I find that I was enjoying it most outside on fresh summer days as a way to mix up my daily rotation. I definitely recommend trying Gullviva & Viol if you’re a fan of more floral and herbal tasting snuses, as well as if you’re someone who enjoys tasting unique snus flavors!
