Produced by Fiedler & Lundgren (the makers of Lucky Strike Snus), Granit Special is a white portion type snus. F&L claims that Special is a regular strength tobacco and licorice flavored snus. Being someone who likes licorice (Skruf Slim Nordic, LD Salmiak, and my favorite, Romeo y Julieta), I was curious to try Granit Special and see how the flavor stacks up to other brands out there. Granit Special contains an average nicotine content, and contains 21.6g of snus per can.
As soon as I opened my can, I noticed a mix of ammonia and licorice fill the air. The licorice smell wasn’t as strong as LD Salmiak or Skruf Slim Nordic, and there was also more of a tobacco aroma. Once I placed a portion in my mouth, I noticed a salty tobacco taste, with only a hint of licorice. Even after about twenty minutes, the licorice flavor was still weak. After about an hour, I could no longer taste licorice, only a very salty tobacco flavor. I wasn’t a huge fan of the flavor, as I found the licorice to be too weak and the tobacco overly salty.
The portions themselves were of average quality, and they remind me quite a bit of skruf stark portions in terms of look and feel. After ten minutes, I began to feel a nicotine buzz, and it lasted for about fourty minutes. The portions produced very little drip, and even after an hour drip was manageable.
Overall, I found the taste of Granit Special to be ok, but nothing to write home about, especially with the amount of licorice flavored snus brands on the market. The licorice taste was fairly weak compared to other brands, and I didn’t find that Special’s tobacco flavor was a strong or as tasty as Romeo y Julieta’s. I suggest giving this brand a try if you’re looking to try something new with a tobacco and slight licorice flavoring. One thing I did really like however, was the can design. All the edges were rounded, and it was soft to the touch with nice logos.
