Produced by the U.S Smokeless Tobacco Company, Copenhagen dipping tobacco is one of the most popular and beloved brands of dip available today. Having previously reviewed a wide range of Copenhagen varieties including Southern Blend, Fine Cut, Natural Extra Long Cut, and regular Long Cut, I was certainly excited when I finally obtained a can of Long Cut Mint to try and review here on the Northerner Blog! A relatively new offering, Copenhagen Mint was tested in three American states in 2013 and was made available nationally in Spring 2016 following much hype. Each can of Copenhagen Mint comes with 1.2oz (32.02g) of long cut dipping tobacco.
Soon after opening my can of Mint Long Cut, I began to notice a strong aroma of sweet, fresh mint as well as subtle hints of tobacco in the background. Once I put a medium sized dip in, I soon tasted a strong fresh mint flavor (which produced a slight burning sensation in my lip) as well as a bit of sweetness. After about the thirty minute mark, I began to taste a little bit of smokey tobacco which slowly began to increase in strength over time but never seemed to overpower the mint flavor at any point.
Much like the rest of Copenhagen’s Long Cut offerings, Mint Long Cut has a fairly coarse grind which makes it easy to form a pinch as well as well as remove it. I found the tobacco to be quite moist, and combined with the strong mint taste I found that my dips became very moist around the fifty minute mark at which point I usually removed them. I found the nicotine kick to come on quite fast, and within only a few minutes I began to notice a nice buzz.
As a whole, I found that although Copenhagen Mint Long Cut has a great mint taste, I feel that it was a bit overhyped within online communities as I don’t find that it has anything to make it stand out when compared to mint offerings from other brands. However, it does offer a strong mint taste which many mint fans should enjoy. Keeping this in mind, if you’re a fan of mint flavored dips and are looking to mix things up a bit, I recommend trying Mint Long Cut as it can be quite refreshing while relaxing after a large meal!
