Produced by the Pinkerton Tobacco company of Owensboro Kentucky in the USA, I’ve previously enjoyed both Timber Wolf Fine Cut Wintergreen as well as the Long Cut variety, so I was excited to see what the straight offering is like! Each can of Timber Wolf Straight contains a total of 1.2oz (34.02g) of long cut dipping tobacco.
In a fresh can, Timber Wolf Straight has a strong aroma of sweet, smoky tobacco, as well as what seems like just a tiny hint of wintergreen in the background. Pinches were definitely very tasty, and I felt that the sweet flavor helped to round out the smokiness of the tobacco to produce a very satisfying dip. After about twenty minutes or so, the flavor began to transition from sweet to slightly salty, and the smoky flavor became increasingly pronounced. The can claims that this is a ‘New Darker Blend’, but since I haven’t had the opportunity to try the original blend, I’m not quite sure what the difference in taste is like.
The grind appears to be pretty typical for a long cut, and I had no issues grabbing a nice pinch and fitting it into my lower lip. Within a few minutes, I felt a nice nicotine buzz set in, and it lasted for quite some time depending on the size of my pinch. I feel that Timber Wolf produces a nicotine buzz which is slightly stronger than most long cuts, and this is definitely a plus since I can take smaller pinches but still get a nice kick. I also find that removing pinches is quite easy thanks to the coarse grind, and I usually took mine out after about forty minutes on average.
As a whole, Timber Wolf Long Cut Straight is a tasty traditionally flavored dip with a long lasting flavor, and I highly suggest giving it a try if you normally dip straight flavors and want to try something with a little more of a kick!
